Districts 10,11,13,14, and 15 are the real Viennese districts that offer a glimpse into the authentic local life.

The 10th,11th,13th,14th & 15th districts are also known as Favoriten, Simmering, Hietzing, penzing, and Rudolfsheim funfhaus respectively.

These districts are residential, family-oriented neighbourhood with a multicultural flair, making it the real Viennese district.

13th District

The 13th district of Vienna, Hietzing, is popular with Tourist as it is the location of both the city Zoo and the Schoenbrunn Palace and Garden.

The Palace grounds include a grand Zoo, Baroque styled Garden, Imperial carriage Museum known as the Wagenburg and The Palace.

Today, visitors can enjoy the meticulously maintained Baroque-style garden, maze and sculptured marble fountain.

Forty of the 1,441 rooms are open to the public and two are of special note; The Hall of Mirrors where the Six year old Mozart performed for Empress Maria Theresa in 1972, and the Grand Gallery, where the congress of Vienna (1815) danced at night after carving up Napoleon’s collapsed Empire during the Day.

On the grounds of the Schoenbrunn Palace is a huge Greenhouse filled with Exotic trees and plants called the Palmenhaus.

Schoenbrunn Zoo

Did you know that the Schoenbrunn Zoo in Vienna is the oldest zoo in the world? It was founded in 1752 and today is home to more than 700 animal species from around the globe.

This zoo has a long history of scientific research and conservation efforts and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996.

There is also a fantastic canopy trail with a suspension bridge through the forest for up close views of birds and open air terrariums.

14th District

Penzing and the west side of Vienna feel like the undiscovered secret of the city.

Sights:

  • The church of Saint Leopold.
  • Technisches Museum: Here, you can witness the locomotives from the 19th century and learn about factory life. This museum is a great opportunity to delve into the advancements and innovations of the past and how they have influenced our present.

Also known as Rudolfsheim Funfhaus is not home to many sights however this multicultural district has markets, exotic restaurants, brunch spots, Turkish bakeries and supermarkets.

Getting there: The districts mentioned above are well-connected to the centre via public transport. Schoenbrunn Palace is best reached by taking the U4 subway to the Schoenbrunn stop.
