The truth about Ukraine-Russia conflict

The Truth about what is happening in Ukraine from a foreigner living in Ukraine. This is just an opinion.

Written by Emmanuel Oyebanre

War is not the solution to anything but rather diplomacy and compromises.

My phone has been ringing constantly for the past 48 hours and the calls have been mostly from worried parents who have their wards under our care at UkraineInvites.

Most of them study here at different Universities in Ukraine and bad enough, the Universities are not giving them a break.

Ukrainians simply carry on as if nothing is happening.

However, the western media paint the picture of an apocalypse with unending breaking news of how Russians will invade Ukraine at any moment which the Russians have denied.

There is an African adage that says When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.

In this case, Ukraine is about to suffer from the battle of supremacy between the Russian-led forces and Western-backed NATO Forces. They want to use Ukraine to test their ammunitions including nukes!

Politics:

I do not like discussing politics on my page, but I think the crisis between Russia and Ukraine is like a fight between an elder brother and a younger one which mostly gets settled with little external interference.

Ukrainian leaders need to know that it makes no sense to fight with a super world power like Russia. They should not fall for the baits.

When the crisis erupts it will be left alone to suffer the consequences as you can see Western Embassies already evacuating their citizens even before the start of the war leaving more than 40 million Ukrainians to their fate.

I don’t think Putin will be foolish enough to start a war in his own backyard.

He knows of the dire consequences of such an action; the impact on its own dwindling economy, the refugee crisis which will mostly be to his own country and the list is endless.

One of the problems in our world today is that the wrong people one way or the other find themselves in power and I have seen this everywhere including my own country Nigeria. Leaders who lack decision-making skills and critical thinking ability.

Leaders who would rather sacrifice thousands of lives in exchange for grants. Leaders who only think about themselves and not about the people they lead.

Compromises and Diplomacy to the Rescue:

How about the western countries give these countries a break and allow them to settle their differences?

How about acceding to Putin’s terms of withdrawal by stopping further NATO Eastern European expansion?

What about giving terms of NATO membership to Ukraine that does not involve a missile defence system at its borders which may give some assurances to the Russians?

How about some bruised ego on both parts but saving thousands of human lives?

What about having some common sense that the world is just recovering from a pandemic lockdown and does not need another war?

As a person of faith, I believe this crisis will be resolved and peace will return to Ukraine. God still rules in the affairs of men, I believe that.

The Truth here is that right now no one is throwing bombs or missiles into Ukraine as the western media would like people to believe thereby causing panic and fear amongst the population.

At the moment of publishing this article, some Russian forces have begun pulling away from the Ukrainian border according to Major General Igor Konashenkov, Russia defence minister.
