The Graben
The Graben is located between Kartnerstrasse and Kohlmarkt. Graben literally means Moat or Ditch.
The Graben’s centrepiece is the effulgently Baroque Pestsaule or plague column
It was erected by Emperor Leopold between 1687 and 1693 as thanks to God for delivering the city from a particularly virulent plaque.

The easiest way to get here on the subway includes the Central stephanplatz subway stop right next to St. Stephens cathedral.
