2. Take Public transport.

While driving might be a pleasant experience in Vienna.it is not necessary thanks to the city’s excellent public transport.

The trains, trams, and buses are clean and reliable and at your disposal, and this is a good way to access and see many interesting places.

The coffee houses and cafés are a must-do experience, sip slowly and watch the local elders read the daily newspaper and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee.

5. Tipping

Waiters and waitresses in Vienna and most of Europe are on a salary, so they don’t rely much on tipping.

The waiters are nonchalant in their services so try to be polite and friendly even if they are rude in the beginning they warm up once you are settled in.

6. Wine on Tap

Vienna is wine. Vienna is the only major city in the world that produces a significant amount of wine within city limits.

Most wine made in Vienna is white, the famous Gruener Vetliner as well as Rieslings and blends but there are some decent reds(Zweigelt, Blaufraenkisch).

7. Undress code

Nudity is welcomed in swimming areas & saunas.

Austrian are a big fan of free body culture which means they can take their clothes off not on the streets though, but you will find them at the beach or public swimming places.

8. Don’t smoke

smoking is still surprisingly common in Vienna. In late 2019 a smoking ban finally made it illegal to smoke inside restaurants, public transport, parks and all the expected places.

So if you want to smoke you might want to step outside.

9. Bring your own bag when shopping

Try to take a recycle bag with you when shopping, so you don’t have to spend a few euros on getting a new one every time you shop.

10. Sunday is a day of rest

Mostly everything is shut on Sundays in Vienna, so if you are visiting, Sunday may be a good day to arrive.

11. Don’t get heated about the A.C

Europe never developed the love affair with the Air conditioner so don’t expect to find it on buildings.

Austrians believe that the A.C is bad for the health and environment, it is best to spend your energy on having fun outside than raising your temperature at the poor hotel clerk.

12. Bicycle path

A common mistake Visitors make is not recognizing the city’s bicycle paths. Vienna, but especially the inner city, has many bicycle paths alongside roads that see quite a lot of traffic. Unfortunately, many tourists in Vienna fail to realize they’re standing or walking on these paths.

13. Museum free days

you could spend days in Vienna just visiting museums and not run out of a thing to do.

What’s great is that city museums like the Vienna Museum and the Roman Museum, are free to the public on the first Sunday of every month and October 26th, Austria’s National Day.

14. Be quiet

People are respectfully quiet on public transport and in public spaces. We know you are having fun but try to do it hushed.

One can tell who the tourists are because they are talking VERY LOUD. So do yourself a favour and use an inside voice.

15. Get out of Vienna

Throw in other fun destinations on the outskirts of the city and in neighbouring states, and you’re spoiled for choice in terms of day trips.

Forty miles west of Vienna is the Wachau Valley, Forty miles east of Vienna is Carnuntum. Other regions you can visit are Carinthia, Graz, and Salzburg.
